My new camera 2020 style

On March 13th 2009 I wrote about getting a new Digital Compact Camera, the Canon A470 Powershot, having outgrown a cheap digital camera and needing something for blogging than my original Vivitar 35mm film compact I'd had since the 1990's.

It's been with me for these last ten years and 11 months taking pictures of scenes some while away to various places, some pictures for blog articles but on the Geography Field Trip it died.
The sensor packed up.

I decided to replace it with the Sony DSCWX350 which is a similar auto only model that has some of things that crept into compact cameras in that time.

The first thing is while the Canon had an optical zoom of 3.4 times giving the 35mm equivalent of 38 to 105mm, this has a 20 times zoom that starts off a little wider at the equivalent of 28mm which is more useful for general views and while I may not feel like using this beyond about 200mm, the fact it does go way way out can be a help in framing images.

The second is while the Canon used a respectable 7.1 pixels  more than enough for a A4 print, this uses 18.5 which is just below a entry level digital single lens reflex camera so it will take very high quality pictures that can be cropped with little loss although you'd use a higher capacity SD card than the Canon's which was 4GB, the Sandisk one I bought for it was a Extreme 4K compatible 64gb one.

The third feature is the video mode which is full HD 1080p while the Canons was 720 which when backed by the zoom and stabilization means it can make short movies with stereo sound.

The review, mode setting and movie functions are set on the rear where a 3 inch screen sits to show you what is set up and like most compacts this lacks a viewfinder unlike a DSLR so you compose via the display.

Getting your pictures off it is a matter of plugging the USB to micro USB cable in and switching computer and then camera on then navigating to the image files. Simples.

I'm looking forward to using it.
