Yes last week was Geography Field Trip where the weather really decided it didn't want to play nice with all of us really but we did get to see a few things.
Some indication of how naughty Weather was can be seen from this stream near Newby Bridge, Westmoreland where the water levels were high and it was flowing very fast which was taken on a steam train.
They think we're baa'ing mad to leave them out to roam on wet fields but dry stone walls are an interesting feature in and around the Lake District looking at us thinking we'd lost our marbles but actually apart from some muddy bits 1EB made its way exploring and taking notes for return to school without injury or losing anyone along the way.
One thing we looked at was managing woodland and were able to see National Trust forestry workers at work taking out damaged or otherwise dead trees first hand, talking with them.
Tuesday wasn't a good day for me not least for an incident that I hope never to witness ever again on our estate just out of town.
As I think I mentioned on here I do walk quite a bit on a daily basis even though it is pretty tiring for me with my difficulties because quite simply not only would be likely to put on weight but also because if I did not, my muscles would start to waste away becoming less and less able to even get around the house.
Anyway, it was the afternoon and as I had been taking care of stuff for Mom had eaten about a half hour earlier I decided to put my winter hat, coat and shoes on to have a gradual walk around the estate and adjoining countryside.
When I do, I don't have a fixed distance our route in mind, preferring to listen to my body, the terrain and the weather instead and having just turned to a housing around passing the sinking village green (Brine Subsidence is marvellous!) as coming the other way on the opposite sidewalk (/pavement) stood a man in his fifties, and two adult daughters around late twenties, early thirties and a head of them a small Scottie type dog that had no lead on it but clearly was theirs.
I decide the best approach is to continue along walking where upon the Scottie runs across the road that is the main thoroughfare through the estate and starts jumping up yapping at me refusing my attempts to persuade it to leave.
At this point having tried to call it over owner dashes across after it and it runs into oncoming traffic and this goes on and on with the daughters joining in with the squeals of quickly applied car breaks being applied four times as dog and car wheels narrowly avert a road traffic accident between which said dog is jumping up and down pawing my legs.
I am stood their hands over eyes expecting the sound of crunched dog.
A quarter of an hour later, eventually the owner is able to pick up by by the collar muttering about it being a naughty dog with no apology..
The dog may of been out of control but the thing was they were not in control of that dog who could of caused a traffic accident resulting in injury or death to others because they for whatever reason chose when taking it out not to put a dog lead on.
They have a far higher responsibility for all that did happen than the Scottie ever did.
The whole incident left me very shaken up.
Please if you do own a dog put it on a lead of a suitable length when walking it in built up areas as well as in fields. Thank you.
Rather chilly but bright start to the day that sent my mind hurdling back toward Summer where I loved walking along the local Inland Waterway, taking in the scene and chatting away to people visitors and locals alike.
Although the area has become built up over the years, there remains a peaceful feel I find therapeutic especially along the areas adjoining farmland .
Greetings on a recovering from a bad migraine Friday here which is why the blog update is kind of late as put quite simply I've been in bed for two days and have been struggling to make coherent sentences earlier today which is what I was off work with. I may just get around next week to writing the entry I had thought out earlier this week
I've had these lousy migraines from early childhood that without giving away my age is quite some time really and while I know the whole drill, it's still yukky.
I went out for a walk earlier and on my second walk this afternoon I got back soaked to the skin as it rained really really hard and I couldn't find a place to shelter. This meant drying my coat that was 'showerproof', trainers and tracksuit followed by myself with a thick towel like you do with dogs!
Woof!!!
Anyway so far in I've lost 11 pounds and can run a bit too.
Nope I haven't morphed into a dog dear readers -really I haven't although I think the spots on Dalmatians are really cool - but this entry is about something else.Yesterday I did my stint delivering newsletters in my community that help to keep people informed about what's going on around them and that. In the course of which I do encounter dogs, dogs in gardens, dogs just waiting behind the mail flap to bit your fingers off, dogs been taken for walks and so on,Well seemingly while I was doing my bit, a dog escaped from a second gate that the person who lost it said was so stiff nobody ever uses it and got the Police Community Support Officer involved who assumed that because the magazine in the mail slot was mine then it must of been me that having opened this gate and left it open!Little ol' me with paws that can hardly open parcels and struggles to hold a pen to write my very name can actually do this?Naw someone's got that wrong all right!I'm sorry this person's dog escaped, do hope it can be found but sometimes you have to accept the notion of risk -anyone calling at the house could of accidentally let it out and just maybe disused gates should be blocked off.
